Vital QPR assesses this weekend’s opponents, Sheffield Wednesday

THE LATEST

They’re on their way back – or so the fans will exclaim, Sheffield Wednesday have their eyes firmly set on a place back in the Premier League, a division they departed just after the turn of the millennium.

Carlos Carvalhal and owner Dejphon Chansiri have formed quite a formidable partnership and last season they almost reaped the rewards. A fine season in which they handsomely thrashed Premier League Arsenal (3-0), they also finished in sixth place.

While getting past the impressive Brighton & Hove Albion in the semi-final, they fell short in the final against Hull City. This prompted nearly £10m of investment from Chansiri to try and carry the Owls over the line in a competitive Championship season.

The likes of Almen Abdi, Steven Fletcher and Adam Reach came through the doors at Hillsborough in a busy summer for Carvalhal – and they have set themselves up nicely in sixth, in touch with the leading back and hoping for a surge to the summit in the second half of the campaign.
