IDRISSA Sylla slid home a second half winner as an improved Queens Park Rangers edged out playoff hopefuls Bristol City.

City – reliant on the goals of Tammy Abraham and the creativity of Lee Tomlin came up short on this occasion after QPR turned it on in a much-improved second period.

Injuries to Joel Lynch and Jordan Cousins brought a premature end to their evening, and it will give Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink something to reflect upon.

A first half bereft of incident aside from Abraham’s gilt-edged miss before the break soon transformed into home dominance in the second period.

Washington saw a deflected effort come back off the bar before the Rs finally took the lead – Massimo Luongo’s fine cross was ably fired home by Idrissa Sylla from close range – he ran to the bench to celebrate with Seb Polter.

City offered little in riposte even in the closing stages as Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and QPR earned only their second home maximum of the season.
