Warburton’s words can only go so far, he needs to be able to turn them into results – Opinion

It’s history repeating itself, or at least that’s what QPR boss Mark Warburton believes.

Speaking after QPR’s 1-0 defeat to Reading on Boxing Day, Warburton touched on the fact that his side can’t seem to catch a break in recent weeks despite some very good performances, at least in the eyes of the manager, most notably against Barnsley and Charlton Athletic:

“We were poor and gave the ball away very cheaply in the first half, and we started the second half off very slowly, but eventually we got going and used the ball. We picked up some energy and added a tempo to our play and I thought from then on, we played well. Annoyingly that is very typical of what we have seen in the last few weeks. We are creating chances and getting into good areas, but we need to get the rewards for the good football we are playing. It’s frustrating but we have to take the positive from it and that is that we’re creating chances.”

It’s all well and good saying that, but there’s going to have to come a time when those words need to be turned into actions. There’s only so long that we can essentially be hamstrung by these things before they really start to take a toll on the season.

This is why I have questioned before about Warburton being a good manager for us, because I don’t think that he is the kind of man that can take the team to that next level where they finish their chances, get more goals and move us up the table as a result.

And if he isn’t up to the task with this squad, then there are two options that the club should explore. They either need to give him the funds to bring in some better players in January, possibly through the sale of Eze, or letting Warburton go and bringing in a manager or head coach who can bring the best out of the players that are at the club.

How many points will QPR get out of their next six games?

0-6

7-12

13-18

We’re not going to be able to move forward with things as they are, so something has to change. Hopefully before it’s too late.
