“That’s why I am where I am”: Eberechi Eze opens up on journey that brought him to QPR

|

Queens Park Rangers attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze has revealed the rejection he suffered as a youngster before joining the R’s.

The 21-year-old has established himself as one of the most exciting players outside the Premier League, contributing with 12 goals and eight assists in the season so far. Such form has inevitably caught the eye too, with reports previously claiming that Crystal Palace and Tottenham have been linked with a move for the player, who could command a fee in the region of £20m.

However, Eze’s career could have turned out very differently, with the youngster explaining how he had spells at various clubs across London before ending up at QPR, something which those clubs are surely regretting now.

I started at Arsenal, I was 8 and I was there until I was about 13, got released then went to Fulham from 13 to 16, got released during the Christmas went to Reading until the end of the season,” he told Sky Sports as quoted by the Islington Gazette.

I got released there, I was sort of stranded looking for a club, I ended up going to Millwall where I done a two-year scholar then they released me. I went on trial to I don’t even know how many teams that summer, but thankfully QPR gave me the opportunity, and that’s why I am where I am now.”

Is £20m fair for Eze?

No money is enough

We need more

That's a fair amount

No club will pay that

R’s chief Mark Warburton has heaped praise on Eze recently, insisting that the starlet is capable of playing for any side in the Premier League as speculation builds about his future. However, the immediate priority for Eze will be to finish the season at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium and he will surely believe the Londoners could still win promotion, as they trail the play-off places by six points with nine games still to be played.

It’s still unclear when the season will resume, although the EFL have confirmed that they intend to finish the season if it is possible.
