“I just find it quite incredible”: Mark Warburton makes transfer claim amid current situation

|

Queens Park Rangers boss Mark Warburton believes that the transfer market should be changed drastically due to the current situation football finds itself in.

With no games having been played since March, clubs up and down the country have been impacted, including the R’s, who have furloughed staff and agreed a wage deferral with the playing squad. Therefore, Warburton explained to Sky Sports that this has to have a knock-on effect as he was critical of those still talking about transfers when there should be other priorities for clubs.

I don’t see how you can have, for example, a transfer window. How can you have a transfer window when people are being laid off and not paid and there are deferred payments. I just find it quite incredible.

The whole game has got to accept that this is an unprecedented situation, we keep saying it. How do we respond to it? The game can’t expect to carry on as per normal with what we’ve gone through as a general society.”

Will Bright Osayi-Samuel be a QPR player next season?

Yes

No

Despite Warburton’s comments, it appears as though it could be a very busy summer for the R’s and they face a battle to keep hold of several exciting talents, which the boss admitted. Eberechi Eze is a man in demand in particular after an outstanding individual campaign which has seen him score 12 goals and register eight assists.

There has been speculation that Tottenham could make a move for the attacking midfielder, with reports suggesting that he will command a £20m fee, whilst Bright Osayi-Samuel is another who could be on the move having previously attracted attention from West Brom.

The Londoners could still win promotion though, although they face an uphill battle as they trail the play-off places by six points with nine games to play. Obviously, a return to the Premier League would make a massive financial difference to the club.
