“Results That Were Undeserved” – Tonight Was Different For McClaren

|

With five straight defeats in the more recent form guide following on from yet another loss for Queens Park Rangers in last weekend’s clash with Middlesbrough, things didn’t get easier for us as the midweek Championship slot saw us welcome high flying Leeds United to Loftus Road.

The contrast in form between Marcelo Bielsa’s side and Steve McClaren’s is stark, but McClaren desperately needed a win to help turn confidence around and stem some of the pressure after the wheels fell off our season all those weeks ago.

After a goalless first half, having been passed fit ahead of the game to give us a boost, Luke Freeman gave us the advantage four minutes after the halftime restart and few could say it wasn’t deserved looking at the match stats, as although they had more of the ball, we created more on the day and tested their goalkeeper as much as they did ours.

Speaking to the BBC following the fulltime whistle and the end of the game, the gaffer said of the performance.

“We fought for each other tonight and that was the key thing. I was very proud of them. We’ve been going through results that have been undeserved. We said to stay calm, not panic and that it will turn and we’d get the luck. But you work hard for that and we worked hard. I thought it would take an almighty effort to win this game, but they were tremendous.”
