Report: Mark Warburton makes strong claim about QPR players after Sheffield Wednesday defeat

|

QPR manager Mark Warburton has said that only four of his side’s players can hold their heads high following their 3-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Dominic Iorfa, Josh Windass and Jacob Murphy secured a comfortable win for Wednesday at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium, securing the Owls just their fourth win in 20 league games.

That result also means that Rangers have now lost five of the six games they have played since the season got back underway, and after the game, Warburton did not hold back with his assessment of his side.

Speaking to West London Sport after the game about those he felt had performed well in the match, Warburton said: “I thought Joe (goalkeeper, Lumley) had no real chance for the goals and made a couple of very good saves.

“But out of the outfield players, I thought Geoff (Cameron), Osman Kakay and Luke Amos stood up today, and got involved and showed full commitment to it. I thought those three boys showed a real desire to change the game around.”

Do you agree with Warburton's assessment of who played well against Wednesday?

Yes

No

Despite that, Warburton was less complimentary about other members of his squad, and was reluctant to offer any defence for them, adding: “It would be foolish to do that today. We were lacklustre and got what we deserved.

“It’s not a lack of commitment from the players, we were way below our level. What we do well, we didn’t do well today. Simple as that.”

This was not a good day for QPR.

With Wednesday out of form across the second half of the season, this was an opportunity for Rangers to pick up some welcome points of their own.

Ultimately however, they were nowhere near doing that, and Warburton’s comments really seem to sum that hope, although there may be some hope now that those claims from the manager will serve as a wake-up call for some players that could finally lead to an improvement in performances, and potentially results.
