QPR face competition for player they look to fill Nahki Wells void – report

|

QPR have begun preparing for the loss of their star striker as they line up Troy Parrott from Tottenham Hotspur.

Mark Warburton’s side were dealt a hammer blow yesterday evening as Nahki Wells was recalled by Burnley.

It now looks likely that they will not have their top scorer for the second half of the season unless they can find a way of signing the Bermudian on a full-time transfer.

QPR CEO Lee Hoos made it clear that the R’s are still wanting to sign the player on a full-time deal, however, he admitted that it could be a struggle to pull off while keeping in line with Financial Fair Play regulations.

So, given some highly unlikely circumstances, onwards and upwards for Rangers.

With two players already on loan at the club in Ben Amos and Jack Clarke, they are now looking at adding a third in 17-year-old Ireland prodigy Troy Parrott.

Would you be satisfied with Troy Parrott as Wells' short-term replacement?

Yes, he has bags of potential

No thanks, we need someone more proven

On the fence with this one

According to reports from Football Insider, QPR joins Charlton Athletic as the sides from the second-tier who want to take him on loan.

The story states that Jose Mourinho has given the player the go-ahead to go and play football regularly as he does not see him as ready for the Spurs team at the moment.

It seems as if Mark Warburton and Spurs have a positive relationship, so there’s a chance that could act as a catalyst for the deal.

The young Irishman has been pretty prolific at a junior level this year, scoring 10 goals in six games in the UEFA Youth League, Premier League 2 and the FA Youth Cup.

For the seniors, he has played two games; five minutes in the league against Burnley in December as well as starting in the club’s loss to Colchester United in the EFL Cup.

So far this season, Wells has scored 14 in 28 for the club, and obviously that is going to be a tall ask for the youngster to repeat if he does come to the club.

In fact, given his little experience in men’s football, it is hard to tell just how he will get on. However, given the success, he is having at youth level and the fact he is so near the first-team at his age, there is no limit to his ceiling and he could end up being a really good addition.
