“Our support is absolutely critical”: Key QPR figure speaks out as financial agreement confirmed

|

Queens Park Rangers have announced that their players have agreed to defer a quarter of their salary for the next three months as the club look to cope financially.

As had been feared, clubs up and down the country are suffering from a lack of income as the season has stopped. The likes of Birmingham City and Leeds United had already agreed deferrals with their players in the past and the R’s have followed suit.

That’s after they confirmed on their official site yesterday that a temporary 25% reduction has been agreed for the next three months, with CEO Lee Hoos praising the group.

I would like to publicly thank the players for the way they have worked with us for the best interests of the club. It would have been all too easy for them to focus on their own personal circumstances but, in doing so, pose a significant risk to the future of the club.”

Meanwhile, skipper Grant Hall explained how it was a decision the players felt was necessary as they look to help the club.

They have been very open with the squad and that has helped us to understand what is needed, and why our support is absolutely critical.”

It had been reported that the R’s hierarchy had asked the players to take a 50% deferral initially, however the squad weren’t prepared to agree to that and talks had taken place since before the agreement which was reached yesterday.

The long-term implications of the current situation remain to be seen, with the EFL claiming recently that they intend to finish the season and chief Rick Parry stated that players could aim to return to training in mid-May with a potential restart coming a month later. But, nothing is definitive on that, as the authorities wait to see how the situation evolves in the coming weeks and months.
