Queens Park Rangers confirmed yesterday that they have reached an agreement with their squad that will see the players take a 25% wage deferral over the next three months.
As had been feared, the financial implications of the football stopping have been felt, with clubs up and down the country making plans to cope, with Leeds United and Birmingham City two of the first to act in the Championship. And, the R’s have followed suit, with the players agreeing a temporary reduction for the next 12 weeks, although they will be paid back further down the line.
It had previously been reported that the hierarchy at the Kiyan Price Foundation Stadium wanted the players to take a 50% deferral but that was rejected by the players, with further talks taking place before yesterday’s decision.
Would you support the players agreeing to a wage deferral?
Yes
No
Despite the club CEO praising the players, the update brought a mixed response from the fans. Some recognised it as a generous move from the group, yet others felt it wasn’t enough considering they will get this money back. Here we look at some of the comments…

A deferral is only a delay in payment . They will still get all their monies. Unlike the least paid staff who are getting 80% of their money. Not quite so marvellous for me

To be honest , not that impressed . Don’t see how a deferral overly helps . It’s just debt

I can’t believe there are people applauding this as a gesture. I personally find it disgusting. For a start it’s a bloody deferral and not a cut! I would get it if they were all sitting there on £500 a week but the fact is they weren’t. Reality check needed!

Fantastic gesture by the players, whilst the supporters who have no work due to this evil virus have to take at least a 20% pay CUT not deferral, some who will get no money at all.

Think a decent move by the players to provide financial assistance when it is likely very much required.
