Another player departs QPR as the window slowly closes without important replacement – report

|

Another player has departed QPR in this transfer window, with midfielder Josh Scowen signing for Phil Parkinson’s Sunderland.

The 26-year-old was able to play over 100 games for the R’s after joining them in 2017 on a free transfer. Overall, he played 103 matches, scoring four and assisting four.

Despite featuring fairly frequently in the earlier stages of the campaign, he has found it difficult to get a game at the moment, only featuring twice in eight games since Rangers beat Birmingham 2-0on December 11.

Last season, Scowen was very much an important part of the squad under Steve McLaren, playing 35 Championship games, scoring twice and assisting as many.

However, when money is needed, it’s a dog eat dog world in the football league.

Do you think Josh Scowen should've been allowed to leave?

Yes, he wasn't good enough

Only if another player is brought in

Nope, we needed him within the squad

With QPR eyeing up a striker in the latter stages of the window, there’s a chance that this sale could go a fair way to facilitating a move. After Nakhi Wells was recalled by Burnley on the weekend, the club’s CEO Lee Hoos admitted that they were very much interested in signing him permanently, however, the two clubs were far away in their valuation and that the R’s would only agree a deal which wouldn’t leave them breaching Financial Fair Play regulations.

According to reports from West London Sport, this transfer could alter the future of Matt Smith, who was widely assumed to have his deal cut short at Loftus Road. The young, Welsh midfielder has played on just8 occasions for Mark Warburton, however, with Scowen now playing on Wearside, there’s a chance that number could increase, especially if someone is to get injured.

Ultimately, it’s not a loss that should be felt too hard by the club, but he was certainly a decent servant who had to settle for a bit-part role at the end of his career.

For fans, if this results in assisting a move for either Nakhi Wells or another exciting striker then it’s unlikely that there will be many complainants.
