Chelsea assistant boss and former QPR player Ray Wilkins admitted that the R’s gave their Premier League opponents food for thought.

The Premier League leaders were run close by their Championship neighbours but a solitary goal from Salomon Kalou settled the tie as a contest.

Wilkins spoke to chelseafc.com indicating that his side had a tough evening, and using the big-guns towards the end was testament to QPR’s performance.

“QPR equipped themselves very well and gave us a tough very evening,” said Ray.

“It was nice to see Paulo [Ferreira] and Joe [Cole] come through the 90 minutes, Yury [Zhirkov] got a good hour and the two youngsters did very well as well.

‘It was a testament to how well Queens Park Rangers played that we had to use Frank [Lampard], Ashley [Cole] and John [Terry] later on in the game to shore things up.”

By beating QPR, Chelsea maintained their 100% record this season as they travel to Wigan Athletic at the weekend with a view to extending their impressive run.
