Warnock Tracking QPR Forward?

NEIL Warnock is looking to raid his former club for a centre forward.

DJ Campbell signed for boyhood club QPR in a wave of excitement and expectation in the summer of 2011.

His £1.25m move from Blackpool – surprisingly sanctioned by then chief Flavio Briatore was perhaps the stand-out capture in an otherwise uneventful early part of the transfer window.

Warnock would wish to partner him with Jay Bothroyd, another new addition from Cardiff City, and that’s how the early games played out with the duo spearheading the attack.

Campbell struck his first and only goal against relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers in a 3-0 victory at Molineux, before being struck down with a long-term injury.

With Rangers investing heavily in bolstering their attacking line, Campbell watched on as his importance slipped down the pecking order – Djibril Cissé and Bobby Zamora stepping ably into the fray to replace the likes of Heidar Helguson, the aforementioned Bothroyd and the frankly disastrous Federico Macheda.

Now however it appears that Campbell is sadly surplus to requirements, without ever really having the opportunity to prove himself consistently on the pitch.

He may well follow Paddy Kenny to Leeds United with ex-QPR boss Neil Warnock keen to take both of his signings to Elland Road.

This seems a more plausible aspect of the summer transfer window, where as a report this morning linked Jamie Mackie with a £1m move to fellow Premier League sides Southampton and West Ham United.

While this would represent a good profit on a player that surprised many QPR fans and in honesty continues to do so, I cannot see this being a viable deal for Rangers considering his impact last season.

Selling to what are in essence rivals in the last third of the Premier League is hardly prudent and I hope I speak on behalf of the club when I slap a massive ‘NOT FOR SALE’ tag on Mackie’s head.
