Warburton sets out plans for January, shows the club still isn’t ambitious enough – Report

|

He’s sort of given away the plans here.

But at least it’s along the same lines of what I was calling for yesterday by setting out your stall early, so I can’t get too mad at him for it.

With the January transfer window now officially open, plans are afoot at Loftus Road to make a few changes to the squad. Although QPR fans shouldn’t be expecting any big figures to be bandied around just yet.

Speaking to the club website ahead of today’s game with Cardiff, QPR boss Mark Warburton opened up about the club’s plans for the window, and said that the club is going to have to be frugal rather than flash when it comes to bringing in players:

“The best thing is to be honest and say if we can use the loan market wisely then we will. If we can find the value then we will. The best thing is to manage expectations. The owners, Lee [Hoos] and his staff are doing a great job in getting the club back onto a firm financial foundation and we have to continue that work.”

It’s great to hear that there is some level of sensibleness around the club, after all, we don’t want to have to go through the whole Financial Fair Play gauntlet again do we? However, at the same time, I do think that the club needs to show a tad more ambition.

I know this is something that I’ve banged on about it in the past, but I do think it’s a sacrifice that needs to be made. I don’t think the club can really move forward properly with just bringing in loan players, they need to make a big financial splash and selling Eberechi Eze would be a great way to go about it.

Do the club need to sell Eze to move forward?

Yes

No

In this division you can’t afford to be too passive, you have to be willing to take risks, which is sort of what got the club into FFP trouble in the first place, but this would be a way of being able to progress whilst still being able to keep the forces that be off our backs.
