QPR need to be decisive over £20m man, or risk causing great uncertainty – Opinion

|

This is just a continuation of what I said a couple of months back, but I feel that the point is still a salient one.

Especially as the start of the window is only a couple of hours away and attention is only going to ramp up even further.

According to a report in The Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur are still interested in bringing in Eberechi Eze in January, despite reports from earlier in the month from The Sun that the £20m move could be in jeopardy following the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino. Even if Spurs do not go after him, he won’t be short of potential clubs, as The Sun later report that Chelsea, Leicester and West Ham are also taking an interest in him.

I have been clear more or less from the outset that I think it would be in the club’s best interests to sell Eze in this window, because it would give them a great opportunity to really fund the squad with a number of players, ‘addition by subtraction’ if you will.

Whatever happens though, if the club does decide to cash in on him or they want to keep him in West London, my only hope is that the club make their decision quickly so that they have enough time to make sure that everything is in the right place.

The last thing that the club, or indeed the fans need to be going through is a state of panic when the transfer deadline is drawing to a close and his future is still up in the air, and we are left scrambling around wondering that is going to happen and if there will be enough time to find a replacement.

So when the window opens up, I hope that the club essentially comes out with a statement of intent about how they intend to deal with this.

Should the club accept a £20m bid for Eze if it came in?

Yes

No

Mark Warburton has said that he isn’t against the idea of selling him, but either a simple ‘we are willing to listen to offers’ or ‘he is not for sale’ would just be enough to put fans minds at ease about how the club is going to be dealing with something that could have a huge impact on the club going forward.
