Time to see if the windfall against Cardiff can springboard QPR forward – Opinion

|

This is going to be the last article about the Cardiff game I promise.

Time to look away from that and start heading towards the future, starting with the F.A Cup this weekend. With more on that later today.

Speaking to the club website after the game, QPR boss Mark Warburton spoke about how the score in the Cardiff City game was a fair one, and that was predominantly down to the amount of chances that they created due to a well-executed game plan.

“The stats today were similar to our recent games but today we were far more clinical. We moved the ball really quickly and we looked positive with our decision making. We knew we had to switch the ball from side to side against a good Cardiff side with their physicality. We had to defend with a real passion and all over the park we gave good displays – from one to 11, we looked really strong. I thought we deserved to win by that number of goals because of the number of chances we created and how good we looked going forward.”

My only worry is that the side have somehow managed to ‘use up’ all their good luck in front of goal in this one game, and that we might go the next couple of games where we go back to the way the team was in the lead up to this game, with Warburton bemoaning the fact that the team didn’t take their chances when they had the opportunity.

That’s really all I want from this team going forward is consistency. So long as I can tell that there is a plan going forward, and we see a repeat of these sort of performances, not necessarily results, then I’ll be able to look at this side with some level of optimism. But if we plunge back down to earth with another result like we had against Barnsley, then it will more or less be back to square one and I’ll have to start questioning Warburton’s credentials again.

Was that game a 'turning point'?

Yes

No

Let’s see if this game is a turning point, shall we?
