Report: Rangers firmly in race for international forward

|

QPR are reportedly lining up Scottish forward Lawrence Shankland after he has had a terrific start to life at Dundee United.

According to the Scottish Sun, Rangers’ director of football Les Ferdinand took a trip to Dundee for last Friday’s Dundee Derby.

The club are said to be taking a strong look at 24-year-old Lawrence Shankland, whose goal record over the past season and a half is attracting some serious interest from the top of the Scottish ladder as well as some big sides from England’s top two tiers.

So far this campaign, the man capped twice by his country has recorded 19 goals in 17 league games as the Tangerines tear up Scotland’s second-tier. This kind of form has forced Steve Clarke to take notice for the national team, and he even recorded a goal against San Marino.

Allegedly, Rangers, Celtic, Norwich, Brentford and Everton are all taking a good look at Shankland as well as the Hoops, who are weighing up whether or not to make an offer.

Dundee United will feel as if they have hit a bit of a goldmine with Shankland. Despite the striker attracting a lot of interest in the summer – unsurprisingly given his 34 goals in all competitions for Ayr United last year – the orange side of Dundee managed to get him on a free.

Do you think Shankland would be a good signing?

Yes

No

Now just six months into a contract which expires in the 2022 season, they are on the periphery of getting a juicy sum for their man, or potentially take him to the SPL with them.

For QPR, they haven’t had too much problem finding the net this campaign with 39 goals from their 25 games, however, that doesn’t mean adding a prolific striker such as Shankland should do any harm.

While Eberechi Eze is the top scorer for the club in the Championship at the moment with nine, Jordan Hugill and Nakhi Wells are closely behind with eight apiece.

Bearing this in mind, neither of these currently have futures which are certain to be at the club beyond the end of the season, so signing Shankland permanently could offer them a player they can have for years to come.
