Report: Mark Warburton provides key update on QPR player’s situation

|

QPR manager Mark Warburton has confirmed that talks over a move to Belgium for attacker Bright Osayi-Samuel are at an “advanced stage”.

Osayi-Samuel has enjoyed an impressive campaign for QPR, scoring six goals and providing eight assists, something which has attracted plenty of attention from elsewhere.

It was reported earlier this week that QPR have accepted a £4.7million bid from Belgian champions Club Brugge for the winger, who has just 12 months remaining on his deal with Rangers after turning down the offer of a new deal with the club.

Now it seems as though Osayi-Samuel’s departure from QPR is edging ever closer, as when asked about those report of a move for the 22-year-old following his side’s 4-3 win over Millwall – which the attacker did not feature in – Warburton told the West London Times: “There’s very strong interest from a Belgian club.

“Bright was training with us yesterday to start today. But talks are now at an advanced stage and it was a case of acting in everyone’s interests.

“No paperwork has been finalised but talks are certainly at an advanced stage.”

Can QPR cope without Bright Osayi-Samuel?

Yes

No

Judging by these comments from Warburton, it does look likely that Osayi-Samuel will be playing his football in Belgium next season.

Given he has been one of QPR’s more impressive players this season, that will be both a blow and a concern for the club, given even with the influence of Osayi-Samuel and others, they have still found themselves stuck largely in the bottom half of the table, making you wonder how they will cope without him and any other potential departures.

However, given Osayi-Samuel’s contract situation, it could be a sensible move to let him go now, then they can at least receive some funds for him, while the fact this deal is coming early in the window means there is time to go out and find a replacement for him.
