Rangers’ White Hart Pain

A FIRST half horror show saw Tottenham Hotspur ease past a hapless Queens Park Rangers who now sit rock-bottom of the top flight.

Rangers were second best throughout and the hosts capitalised on their advantage when Emmnauel Adebayor played provider for Nacer Chadli to neatly chest his far post cross down and clip beyond Green.

The visitors were at odds defensively to cope with the constant wave of attacking pressure – Richard Dunne in particular a notable worry in the centre of a troubled back five. Matt Phillips spurned a glorious opportunity, electing inexplicably to chip Hugo Lloris at point-blank range.

Suffice to say where he missed, Tottenham capitalised – Erik Lamela sent a corner in for Eric Dier to power home his second of the season past a beleaguered Rob Green. Rangers now threatening to implode in front of their travelling support.

Equally pitiful defending granted Tottenham a third. A fine flowing move from the hosts culminated in Lamela dancing around a flurry of tame challenges before clipping the ball to the onrushing Chadli to net an easy second and sealing a fine first half for the hosts.

Rangers had no response other than mercifully withdrawing the hapless Dunne at half time and the shift in formation to 4-5-1 prompted a marginally better performance. Ultimately it was undone by a fairly simplistic goal.

Chadli passed through four players trying to crowd him out and Rose exploited the gaping hole to roll in Emmanuel Adebayor, who in turn dispatched with consummate ease. Spurs eased up as Rangers had a couple of pot shots on goal, but much work to do as Redknapp’s men wilt in the North London sunshine.
