Rangers to use loan market in January window – report

|

QPR are likely to be using the loan market in the January transfer window as they try and offload one of their youngsters.

Conor Masterson joined the club in the summer, however, he has not been able to establish himself amongst the first team and is yet to make an appearance.

According to West London Sport, the club would now rather try and give him some experience of playing men’s football by sending him out on loan, with many clubs allegedly interested.

Masterson was picked up on a free in the summer after being released by the European champions, Liverpool. The centre-half hasn’t played a minute in any competition yet, so it makes sense for him to get some football under his belt.

The report also goes onto state that clubs from League One have been made aware of his availability, and there is an expectation that he will find a club at that level to start playing at.

For Rangers fans, it is obviously quite hard to tell just how good this player is considering he has never played a senior appearance in his life. It is clear that he is somewhat on the periphery, though, as Mark Warburton has trusted him on the bench for his side.

Where do the club need to invest the most in January?

The Irish defender – getting capped 11 times by his country at U19 level – has still had to play in some fairly high profile matches, even if they are at a low level. While at Liverpool he played 25 times in the Premier League 2 competition, and also played seven times in the UEFA Youth League during the 17/18 season, scoring once.

Considering that he is clearly down the pecking order at the club, there really is no need to keep hanging onto him. They have now had a decent enough time to take a look at him since joining the club, so a move to League One should be a good move for every party involved.
