Queens Park Rangers once again exited the Masters Final at the earliest stage with Barnsley this time overseeing their demise.
Last season it was Middlesbrough, but this time out the Tykes sent Rangers crashing out on sudden-death penalties, bringing an end to another decent tournament for QPR.
Rangers evening didn’t get off to the best start as former transfer target Bruce Dyer opened the scoring for Barnsley, rolling his marker before tapping home past Simon Royce.
The advantage was doubled for the Tykes when Nicky Eaden was afforded time and space to slam home from the edge of the area.
Marcus Bignot set the ball rolling for Rangers as a good period of possession the full-back – still playing for Zamaretto Premier League side Brackley Town – slammed home from distance.
Deiniol Graham restored the two goal advantage for the Tykes, but Michael Meaker – the Masters specialist – snaffeld home a goal with just over two minutes remaining.
Rangers levelled when Matthew Rose squared for an unmarked Tony Thorpe to level the scores. Royce was active down the other end to pull off a spectacular save.
It went to sudden death penalties and as he did against Vauxhall Motors, Karl Connolly scarcely drew a save from Kevin Miller as Bruce Dyer sent Barnsley into the semi-finals.
