A short statement just released on the Portsmouth FC official website has confirmed what we all believed – the Tommy Smith deal has not been allowed by the Football League.

The statement claims that ‘administrative issues outside the Blues’ control,’ resulted in the League rejecting Smith’s permanent transfer to Rangers.

However, the statement also goes on to confirm that the two clubs are now working to bring Smith to Loftus Road on loan in time to be registered so he can play for us this coming Saturday (against Middlesbrough).

Furthermore, the deal will allow us to buy Smith once the January 2011 transfer window opens.

Annoying – rumours suggested that the paperwork was delayed by Gianni Paladini – but as that rumour started, apparently, with Iain Dowie you can draw your own conclusions.

Nevertheless, we should still see Smith in the blue ‘n’ white hoops by the weekend!
