Opinion: Stats show that this man needs to keep his place during potential upcoming reshuffle

|

It looks as if one part of the team is shaping up quite nicely.

With the addition of Jack Clarke seemingly imminent at Loftus Road, it looks like we’re going to be pretty much set when it comes to the attacking part of the team, even if there may have to be a few tweaks in the team to make it happen as I discussed yesterday.

However with all the talk in recent days dominated with the attack, there is one area that has very much gone under the radar, and that is the defensive half of the field, both in terms of midfield and across the backline.

In my piece yesterday regarding the arrival of Clarke and the changes that may have to be made, I noted that it would mean Ilias Chair would have to drop into a defensive midfield role in Mark Warburton’s preferred 4-2-3-1 formation, allowing him to dictate play from deep.

The question is though, who should be the one partnering him in that midfield role?

I personally believe that it needs to be Luke Amos, someone who has been in and out of the team so far this season, up until recently when he has managed to put together a bit of a string of appearances, and hopefully he’ll be able to keep it up in the new regime.

If you take a look at his stats from WhoScored, you can tell that he is going to be the best option when it comes to protecting the back line. He ranks 5th in the team and 1st among midfielders when it comes to tackles with 1.9 averaged per game, the same when it comes to interceptions with an average of 1.1 and 7th in the team and 2nd amongst midfielders when it comes to blocks with 0.2.

Should Luke Amos be the first-choice defensive midfielder?

Yes

No

So hopefully when all the dust settles and Warburton gets round to picking his best team when the new arrival comes in, hopefully Amos will be able to keep his place in the team and not completely lost in the reshuffle.
