Ian Holloway has explained the two changes to his line-up while stating his disappointment in another home defeat.

Holloway made two changes to the line-up that drew with Fulham with more than a few eyebrows raised as Jamie Mackie and Ryan Manning dropping to the bench.

The QPR boss told QPR.co.uk that he felt a duty to protect the players ahead of a busy schedule.

‘I made a couple of changes by resting Mackie and Manning and boy did we miss them both,’ he said.

‘I wanted to protect them both with three games in a week – and in the end we missed them more than I thought we would.

‘I take full responsibility for the team selection – because we really missed the spirit, drive and personality that Mackie brings.’

Rangers created many openings but simply weren’t able to convert these into shots on target and goals.

Luke Murphy and Lloyd Dyer put Burton Albion into a two goal lead before Conor Washington halved the arrears.

Holloway couldn’t hide his disappointment with the display that ultimately saw QPR slip to defeat.

‘It was a bitterly disappointing display. I’m desperately disappointed,’ he continued.

‘We didn’t show any of the momentum we’ve created recently.

‘I’m gutted with the result and really disappointed with the performance.’

Rangers now have to prepare for trips to Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers in the next week with Manning and Mackie poised to return on this evidence.

He will also have Sean Goss at his disposal, as he confirmed his signature today.
