“He’s Done An Incredible Job” – Pundit Has Favourite For QPR Job

|

With Queens Park Rangers continuing their search for a new manager following the earlier sacking of Steve McClaren as our form in the Championship tumbled, one of the early frontrunners for the role ahead of the 2018/19 campaign was Lee Bowyer.

With numerous other names in the mix, given there will be a requirement to tighten the belt further and have a more youthful approach to the future of the club, most fans are probably rating potential managers on that basis, so Bowyer has been an interesting one given the work he’s done at Charlton Athletic, keeping them in the mix with a shout for Championship promotion.

Former player and now pundit Dean Ashton believes that Bowyer should be our top candidate and he told Football League World recently that he had no doubts the former midfielder could make the step up to the second tier and do a good job at Loftus Road.

“I do think Lee Bowyer can step up to the Championship. I think he’s done an incredible job to be honest. There’s been a lot of off-field issues and discontent between the fans and the owners. They’ve lost their leading scorer too in Karlan Grant. With all of these things combined and automatic promotion not mathematically out of the question, he’s done a great job.”

Bowyer doesn’t seem to be a favourite amongst fans, but he does have his backers. With the club still interviewing people we’ll have to see if we apply for permission to talk to him but it seems clear that Les Ferdinand has his eyes more set on Tim Sherwood – but I’m yet to be convinced.
