While most in the Queens Park Rangers squad have yet to face Newcastle United, Kaspars Gork?s knows what it takes to stifle league leaders.

Gork?s pitted his wits against the Toon Army twice back in the Uefa Cup in 2006. His side FK Ventspils met Glenn Roeder’s Newcastle United in the Second Qualifying Round of the competition.

A slender 1-0 defeat in the makeshift home of Riga was settled with a Titus Bramble header, while Gork?s proved highly impressive in the second leg shut-out at St James’ Park.

The Latvian international has been an integral part of the Rangers defence this season, proving countless times that he is the star performer at the heart of the rearguard.

He will be hoping to call upon the spirit of his FK Ventspils side of August 2006 to not only stop the Magpies from scoring – but to go one better and take all three points at St James’ Park.
