“Did Enough To Win Two Games” – McClaren Frustrated With Bolton Defeat As QPR Had The Chances

|

Queens Park Rangers returned to Championship action earlier today as we welcomed Bolton Wanderers to Loftus Park after the international lull the last fortnight.

Having entered the break with a point but been winless in the last four, the aim for manager Steve McClaren’s side today was to take all three points from fellow strugglers Bolton or at the very least, make it two unbeaten as we look to turn our inconsistent form around.

Sadly for us, and as some fans would’ve expected given our form of late, it was another bad day as Bolton put off pitch issues behind them and took a 2-0 advantage with goals in each half. QPR did attempt to make a late comeback as Nahki Wells made it a one goal game in the 81st minute but with greater possession and chances (21 in total) we just couldn’t get that second or some luck, so fall to yet another defeat.

Speaking to the BBC following the game, McClaren said of our efforts.

“We had 60 per cent possession, 33 crosses, 21 shots – we did enough to win two games of football there. But we didn’t, conceded two bad goals and that’s our problem – we can’t keep conceding goals. I can see and the crowd can see that the effort is there, the endeavour is there, we’re just making mistakes and getting punished for them. At the moment we need to score two or three goals to get a result and that puts pressure on the forwards and defenders.”
