“Develop our own players”: Mark Warburton opens up on expectations at QPR

|

Queens Park Rangers boss Mark Warburton has confirmed that he has been tasked with changing the approach at the club.

The former Brentford chief was appointed as the R’s new boss ahead of this season and whilst the team have been inconsistent at times, he has them in a decent position with just nine games to play. That’s because QPR still have an outside chance of finishing in the play-offs, with a six-game unbeaten run prior to this enforced break leaving the Londoners just six points away from the top six.

With Warburton relying on loan deals and free transfers in the summer to beef up his squad, following losing key players such as Massimo Luongo, Darnell Furlong and particularly Luke Freeman, to be in this position is promising.

However, the ex-Rangers man revealed to the Scottish Sun that his remit at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium did not totally centre on results.

To be competitive in the Championship, to develop our own players and to achieve as much success as possible with a style of play that our fans enjoy watching.”

And, many would agree that he has achieved those goals this season. As well as having the side in the mix for a play-off place, QPR are the third highest scorers in the Championship, with only Brentford and West Brom having netted more times than the R’s.

Meanwhile, the likes of Bright Osayi-Samuel, five goals and eight assists, and Eberechi Eze, 12 goals and eight assists, have impressed for the club, with the displays of the latter prompting speculation that Tottenham could make a move for him in the upcoming transfer window.
