Ahead of the weekend, Queens Park Rangers’ new manager Steve McClaren was in the media discussing how he would be looking for quality additions this summer and not simply quantity in the transfer market.
McClaren’s First Game Confirmed As He Gives Quality Not Quantity Speech On Transfers
Given how the club has been run over the last few years and with the work Ian Holloway did in angling the team to a more youthful outlook and we began trimming numbers down, this news was hardly a surprise in reality.
McClaren also spoke highly about the ‘core’ of players we now had at the club, and how his targets would be designed to help build them up further and support them as the youngsters especially continued their own development.
The issue of nurturing and building the core further, whilst supplementing them with key experience to increase our chances of a better season with continued improvement largely went over well with fans as his interview filtered through – that’s not to say plenty realise we need that quality brought in to give a better season half a chance of happening.
That's the spirit…..

We need a DEFENCE mate. That’s 4 players minimum. Wake up !

Correct – Apart from Hall – ALL not good enough. Halls career may be over.

Defence has been a mess for a long time definitely need 2 cb's and a more imposing defensive midfielder.
Reckon we'd be ok with full backs if we play 4 at the back, but wouldn't want Bidwell anywhere near wingback again if we played 5.— Andy p (@Superbald71) June 14, 2018
We’ve been linked with Paul Huntingdon from Preston already!

Then expect huge problems next season.

We don’t need many but a few would be nice

With out New recruits we will be struggling the bottom 4 I’ve got every confidence in Steve that he’ll be with us at least up to Christmas

Oh, dear, why don’t the owners sell up and move on? McClaren hadn’t much hope, but signings are essential. If QPR are to thrive – and lots of ‘em.

On the subject of Grant Hall, West London Sport also have McClaren saying that he was hopeful he would return this season, but we had to take it carefully given the length of time he’s been out.
“I’d just signed and was looking around the training ground and Grant Hall was there. I was fortunate enough to have a quick conversation with him. He’s training through the summer, his rehab’s gone well. It’s always difficult after a year out and we have to take it quite slowly with him, but I’m quite hopeful that on the first day of pre-season he’s going to be with the group.”
So hopefully they’ll be good news on that front shortly.
