Club dealt blow as they line up replacement for top goal scorer – report

|

With the transfer window heading towards its conclusion, QPR still have the job of replacing their top goalscorer Nahki Wells after he was recalled by Burnley from a loan.

The Bermudian forward has 13 goals to his name this season – the joint fifth-highest in the whole division – and he has been recalled by his club to sell to the highest bidder.

While QPR initially said they were interested, the CEO Lee Hoos made it clear that they could struggle due to limitations with Financial Fair Play and said that the two clubs were ‘far apart’. The manager went one further yesterday and said that they all needed to ‘move on‘.

One player which the club have been linked with and was said to be a potential replacement is Lawrence Shankland, however, the R’s may have been setback once more with this one.

According to the Daily Record, Shankland has told the Dundee United chiefs that he will not be leaving in January and is fully focussed on securing the club gets promoted back into Scotland’s top-tier.

Would Shankland be your ideal Wells replacement?

Only Wells is my ideal Wells replacement

Yes, he looks like a proper goalscorer

No thank you, we need someone better

The Tangerines manager Robbie Neilson has already discussed the situation publically and has even admitted that the club be powerless to keep the striker, however, the Record claims that after 24 hours of positive discussions, any bid will now be knocked back by the club.

Discussions allegedly took place between the sporting director Tony Ashgar and Neilson, which allegedly ended in the pair both agreeing that he will be staying for the time being. Whether or not that will remain their strategy if a juicy offer came in is a whole different question.

This could be another setback for QPR if Shankland was genuinely a target for this window. The 24-year-old has been absolutely prolific in the past season and a half, scoring 59 goals in competitive games since the beginning of the last campaign.

This season, he already has 22 goals in 19 league games, and while the Scottish and English second tiers are hardly comparable, he would certainly arrive with some serious goalscoring confidence.
