JOEY Barton is one of several players announced today (Wednesday) to be leaving Queens Park Rangers.

The former QPR captain had racked up 99 appearances in a spell which sandwiches a loan deal to Marseille.

A player that divides opinion, Barton featured in the side that fought to safety in the 2011/12 season – despite a final day meltdown at the Etihad Stadium.

He was ushered out on loan to Marseille where he featured heavily before returning to QPR in the Championship under Harry Redknapp, helping the Rs back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

He is joined on the release list by Richard Dunne and Bobby Zamora, two stalwarts of Rangers promotion campaign last time out, while the seldom featuring Rio Ferdinand and Brian Murphy were also announced today.

Shaun Wright-Phillips was thankfully not able to grant himself a further extension – with only one start in 18 months for the former England international.

Loanees Mauricio Isla, Eduardo Vargas and Niko Kranjcar returned to their parent clubs officially today – while Mauro Zarate was sent back to West Ham United.

The players above will officially leave the club on June 30th.

Meanwhile the club has offered new deals to Clint Hill and Ale Faurlín while Karl Henry has the option to extend his existing deal into next season.
