Two In, One Out

Queens Park Rangers were busy in the transfer market this week as they announced the arrival of two new signings with one player leaving the club by mutual consent.

Outgoing

Julio Cesar, Ranger`s Brazilian goalkeeper, left the club with immediate effect on Tuesday having made 27 starts in all competitions for the Rs. The 34-year-old, who was under contract until 2016, has been released and has signed for Portuguese side Benfica.

Cesar was signed just a few weeks after the capture of Rob Green in 2012, catapulting the club`s wages spent on goalkeepers from around £30,000 a week to £130,000, and was among a host of signings that arrived at Loftus Road that failed to live up to their reputations throughout their tenure at the club. The goalkeeper`s class was clear to see but his distribution, positioning and command of his penalty area left a lot to be desired.

QPR had previously been unable to offload the Brazilian due to his high wage demands, the goalkeeper strangely turning down a move to Napoli last summer, but will be glad to finally free up space on their playing staff.

Incoming

On Wednesday QPR announced the £8 million signing of Norwich City midfielder Leroy Fer on a three-year-deal.

Fer, who has been handed the number 10 shirt, told qpr.co.uk: It was always my dream to stay in England, in the Premier League. QPR did well last season to come up and the squad is full of top players, so I`m delighted to be here.”

“Harry told me I was a big target for him and when you hear that from a coach, you want to work with them and play for them.”

The Dutch midfielder, who featured for the Netherlands in this summer`s World Cup Finals, originally progressed through the impressive Feyenoord youth system and having made over 100 league appearances in his four years with the club signed for FC Twente for £5.5 million in 2011.

A deal with Everton reportedly fell through in 2013 but Norwich moved to sign the midfielder at the beginning of last season for an undisclosed fee.

Fer was joined by striker Eduardo Vargas in signing for the club as QPR announced the signing of the Chilean on a season-long loan from Napoli on Thursday.

Competition was rife for the talented front-man but Redknapp managed to beat a number of top sides to secure his sixth signing of the summer transfer window.

Vargas, who featured in all four of Chile`s World Cup Finals games this summer, told qpr.co.uk: “I have come here to do as much as I can for QPR in the Premier League.”

“The Premier League is the best in the world, the most exciting in the world, and I am looking forward to competing in what is a super-competitive division.”

Vargas started his career in Chile making a name for himself at Cobreloa and Universidad de Chile and finishing runner-up to Neymar for the 2011 South American Footballer of the Year accolade.

Napoli signed the striker for £11.5 million in 2012 and Vargas spent time on loan at Gremio and Valencia before making the move across to West London.
