There’s A Massive Complication When It Comes To Fresh QPR Target & It’s Pretty Obvious Really

|

With the January transfer window nearing, the rumour mill is warming up nicely and Queens Park Rangers are no different as we find ourselves linked with Sydney FC midfielder Brandon O’Neill.

The 24-year-old central midfielder is said to be keen to test himself in Europe and obviously, the English Championship carries its own benefits for players who are looking to make a step up in their career. Much like last August as we found ourselves linked with another Socceroo, Trent Sainsbury, Aston Villa are cross-linked with the player as well according to coverage by football.london.

The original report comes from Aussie outlet the Sydney Morning Herald and they quote:

“…a London baed club is believed to be eyeing O’Neill but is under a transfer embargo.”

That instantly brings QPR into the equation when it comes to the yet uncapped player. He does have an Irish passport though apparently, so a work permit shouldn’t be an issue.

The problem with this speculation is self-referencing though – we are under an embargo, so it falls down before it’s even begun as a rumour really in terms of January.

He is out of contract next summer though, so it does open up the possibility of a deal next July, but under the terms of an embargo I’m not sure we could loan him with a late buy option that comes into force at the end of the season as surely that would be covered by acting within the spirit of the rules.

This is just a non-starter for me.
