Queens Park Rangers suffered an opening day defeat to the 2018/19 Championship campaign earlier today as Preston North End took victory.

A single goal from the hosts in the second half was enough to see the Queens Park Rangers’ side off and Steve McClaren opens his club account with defeat.

It’s fair to say the home side shaded what was a forgettable first half, but the final 45 minutes allowed fans some entertainment and McClaren will be groping for the positives. It’s fair to say he won’t be getting carried away with the defeat though as there’s plenty of football left to be played in the campaign, and he still has plenty of work to do with the group on the training field.

Fans are aware of that following pre-season results and performances so they are unlikely to be too down themselves, but they will want things to come together sooner rather than later as with a young group confidence could become an issue.

  • reality check, yes we need youth but youth without experience is a waste of time and whilst we have a lot of older players they are not wiley enough, no real savvy no experience of what to do in any given situation, thats what we are missing up front, yes we have reasonably good players in a number of positions but we need guidance from older heads to bring the team together .we need a hardened frontman who the rest of the team will take inspiration from, a midfield that will find the creativity to supply constantly and a defence like a rock until then it will be a clone of the last five seasons, going nowhere fast or should that be “Down fast”.
