Ipswich Town forward Jon Stead will be eligible to face QPR on Monday afternoon despite his red card against Crystal Palace.

The forward has chosen to appeal the decision to red card him for a lunge just under five minutes before half time making him available for the R’s clash.

Referee Paul Taylor dished out a straight red to Stead’s disappointment as he revealed on ITFC.co.uk.

‘I was hoping we would appeal because I felt it was a yellow card at worst,’ he said.

‘To look up and see the red card was a massive shock to me. It wasn’t two footed, I didn’t leave the ground. It was just a mis-timed tackle and a yellow card would have been plenty.

‘I tried to speak to the referee before he showed the card but their players made it difficult in the way they were surrounding him and that was disappointing. We’re all fellow professionals playing the same game.’

Stead will now look to rekindle his form from last season when Jim Magilton’s Ipswich Town beat Rangers by two goals – Stead bagging them both from the bench.
