The news was broken today that Martin Rowlands will miss the remainder of the season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

For the second year in succession the R’s midfielder’s season has ended prematurely at the hands of an innocuous knee injury.

While on international duty with the Republic of Ireland, Rowlands crumbled to the floor in familiar circumstances as at Pride Park last season, and was stretchered off in the first half against Montenegro.

Since undergoing a scan physio Paul Hunter has confirmed to QPR.co.uk that the injury is a carbon-copy of his previous problem.

‘Martin’s been to see the specialist and the results of the scan unfortunately revealed that he’s sustained another Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury,” said Hunter.

‘Martin’s a fighter,

‘I’ve no doubts he’ll come back from this.

‘He knows what it takes after going through it last season – his attitude was spot on then and I’m sure it will be the same when his rehabilitation begins in the coming months.’

Rowlands looks set to go under the knife on Monday before another lengthy process of rehabilitation in a bid to start again next season.

Vital QPR send its best wishes and a speedy recovery to Martin
