Middlesbrough are reputedly keen on snapping up R’s winger Wayne Routledge to replace the impending transfer of Adam Johnson.

The former Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur wide-man has been in sporadic form this season, with early season form now waning as Routledge produces a distinctive lack of end product.

Now Gordon Strachan has turned his attention to Routledge according to the Daily Mail, but Rangers will evidently be reluctant to do business.

This adds fuel to the fire that Adam Johnson could be on his way to Sunderland – in Steve Bruce’s annual January panic buy – with Sheffield United reportedly keen on Mark Yeates.
