Report: Mark Warburton confirms significant blow for QPR

|

QPR manager Mark Warburton says that defender Angel Rangel could be facing an extended spell on the sidelines with an Achilles injury picked up in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at Luton.

Rangel was stretchered off just 11 minutes into the stalemate at Kenilworth Road, and it seems the early signs are not promising for the centre back with regards to the severity of the blow.

Speaking about Rangel’s injury after the game, Warburton told West London Sport: “It looks a nasty one. He felt his Achilles. There was no-one near him. We have to hope.

“We’ll see what the scan shows. I’m never going to say anything medical until we know what the outcome of the investigation is. But it didn’t look nice. It’s very upsetting for him.

“We’ll get him assessed. He’s in a boot at the moment and the medical here, who are top drawer, will look after him.”

Would you give Angel Rangel a new contract?

Yes

No

You can’t help but feel sympathy for Rangel here.

At 37-years-old and with his contract at Rangers set to expire when the current campaign expires, you have to wonder just what impact this will have on the Spaniard’s long-term future in the game.

Indeed you feel that after such a long and impressive career, Rangel himself will be determined not to have his career shortened in anyway by this, when it appears he is approaching the end of his time as a player anyway.

But with Rangel having started all 21 games he has featured in for QPR this season, it does seem as though Warburton is still willing to rely on him when necessary, and you wonder what impact – if any – this has on the prospect of a new deal for Rangel at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium come the end of this season.
