Report: Champions League club might not even be able to get Eze this January

|

QPR’s valuation for Eberechi Eze might just be high enough to stop even Champions League finalists Tottenham Hotspur signing him.

According to reports in the Express, the midfielder’s valuation of £20m (the Athletic) is putting Spurs off signing him.

At just 21, Eze is proving to be one of the Championship’s best and most skilful players this term, racking up 10 goals and six assists from 26 games – an immense return for someone of his age and position.

The versatile winger tends to play either on the left of attacking midfield, as a number 10, or a bit deeper in the number 8 role, so that could certainly suit Jose Mourinho who would have a number of options where to play the midfielder.

Unfortunately for Rangers fans, Tottenham aren’t the only team knocking on their door for the services of Eze. High-flying Sheffield United are also very interested, so the former Millwall youth player should have the choice of a few clubs if he does choose to leave.

Whether the Blades will be willing to spend that much is another question altogether, but the club’s current stance of wanting £20m is a bit of a win-win, as it means that if they do lose their best player, at least they will be getting paid handsomely for it.

Do the club need to sell Eze to move forward?

Yes

No

Right now in the Championship, popular stats website WhoScored only has one player in the entire division with a higher average rating – John Swift from Reading. Apart from Swift, Eze’s 7.48/10 average has the rest of the league in jealousy. He is also the youngest player in the top 10.

The midfielder has a plethora of talents to him. Not only is his dribbling ability and pace mightily impressive, but his passing – both long and short – is enough to cause teams real problems. He has an average passing percentage of 85.9 per cent – the 11th best in the whole Championship – as well as averages three dribbles per match – the third-highest amount in the league.

The club losing him might feel worse than the £20m recuperated, however, that cash could go a long way to sorting some issues out within the squad and to improving the team in general.
