Rehman heads south

Rehman joined QPR from neighbours Fulham in August, purchased with some of the money from Danny Shittu’s transfer to Watford.

Rehman made his debut for Fulham against Wigan in the League Cup in 2003 and spent time with Brighton at the Withdean on loan later that same season, scoring twice in nine starts.

In 2004/05 he made 21 appearances for Fulham’s first team but moved down the pecking order last season and spent more time out on loan, this time in the Championship with Norwich.

Gary Waddock brought Rehman to Rangers for an undisclosed fee, rumoured to be a quarter of a million pounds, but he quickly became a target for the boo boys at Loftus Road with a harrowing afternoon at the mercy of Huckerby and Earnshaw in a 3-3 draw with Norwich exacerbating the problem.

He has shown some ability when played at right back this season, particularly at Southampton, but he’s clearly low on confidence and he now joins Nick Ward on the south coast as the pair of them look to impress enough to earn a future at QPR for next season.

John Gregory told the club’s official website: ‘Zesh has still got two more years on his contract here, but it’s in his and the Club’s best interests that he goes out on loan to play some competitive football.

‘He’s a great professional and he’s still very much our player. Going to Brighton presents him with an ideal opportunity to get his confidence back.’
