Queens Park Rangers have confirmed one of the worst kept secrets in England’s second tier football and whisked Gavin Mahon from under the noses of several other Championship sides.

The 30-year-old has signed initially on an emergency loan deal with a view to a permanent transfer at the end of the season. The midfielder began to fall down the pecking order at Vicarage Road this season, but will now go straight into Rangers squad to face Leicester on New Years Day.

‘It’s a very exciting time to be joining this club,’ Mahon told Rangers’ official website…

‘There were four or five other Championship sides that showed an interest, but once I’d spoken to the chairman, Gianni Paladini, there was never any doubt in my mind I’d be joining Rangers. The ambition and drive of the board and the new investors really impressed me and I’m delighted to be here.’

Watford will receive an initial payment of £200,000 because Mahon is under contract until the end of the season.

The Birmingham born 6’1′ Mahon, who played out of his skin for Watford in last season’s failed Premier League relegation battle will wear the number four shirt vacated by Danny Cullip.
