Institute midfielder Philip Lowry has opted to remain in Northern Ireland despite a reported wealth of interest from English clubs.

The Under 21 international had aroused the interests of Leicester City, Norwich City and Queens Park Rangers – but has instead opted to join Linfield, the side that lost out to Glentoran in the title race, managed by former QPR defender Alan McDonald.

Lowry had been on trial with Leicester City for a period last season but has sought to continue his career in his homeland rather than try his luck over the water.

Manager John Gregg told the Belfast Telegraph: “He’s young and ambitious and there’s nothing wrong with that.

“He has been a great servant to Institute FC.”

Here`s to hoping he isn`t the one that slipped through the grasp, but when you consider the plight of much sought after forward Pete ‘the postie` Thompson it isn`t likely this blow will be too serious.
