Ramage Has No Regrets

Queens Park Rangers and former Newcastle United defender has no regrets about moving away from his boy-hood club.

Ramage moved to Loftus Road in the summer of 2008 shortly before the appointment of boss Iain Dowie, and despite finding life hard initially he feels he has grown as a person.

‘I feel I’m a better player, and I’ve grown up as a person,” Ramage told the Shields Gazette.

‘I don’t regret moving on. Maybe if I’d stayed I might have played a few games last season, and that’s at the back of your mind, but I’m enjoying it down here.

‘It’s a fantastic bunch of lads – everyone sticks together and looks after each other.’

The full-back has made 40 appearances for the R’s, and has been met with a mixed reception after joining the club.

He has however won over the majority of fans with displays full of passion and commitment combined with his equalising goal against Blackpool on the opening day.

Ramage insisted that old allegiances, while strong, will be put aside tomorrow night as the R’s travel to St James’ Park.

Even if he doesn’t take part tomorrow evening the Ashington-born defender will ensure he does his best to make sure his team-mates are at the top of their game.

‘This is the fixture I looked for – I didn’t care about the others!” he continued.

‘It’s not only myself, but the other lads as well. Newcastle’s a Premier League team, and it’s like drawing them in the cup.

‘It’s been frustrating, and I’ve been itching to get on. If I start, I’ll be looking forward to it more than any of the others.

‘Everyone knows what the club means to me.

‘If I’m not playing, I’ll be supporting the lads and trying to gee them up. It’s an old cliché, but it’s not about me. It’s about the team getting a result, but if I play, then great.’

Jim Magilton has already expressed the belief in the QPR camp and the potential for his side to pick up a result at St James’ Park.

With Ramage doing his utmost to get one over on his boyhood club in any capacity it could make for an exciting encounter in the north-east tomorrow night.
