Queens Park Rangers have reportedly ceased their interest in former boss Luigi De Canio as they continue to search for Paulo Sousa`s replacement.

The former Rangers boss has been linked with a sensational return to W12 almost a year after departing by mutual consent.

He has a contract with Serie A strugglers Lecce until the end of the campaign and Rangers were thought to be keen in handing the manager a second spell at Loftus Road.

Interest has waned in recent times as Neil Warnock became the front-runner for the vacant post in W12. According to the London Informer the Crystal Palace boss won`t come cheap with Simon Jordan demanding £2m for his signature.

QPR supporters will remember De Canio fondly during his brief tenure for his exciting brand of passing football as he endeared himself to the crowd towards the end of the 2007-08 season.

His move back to Italy came as quite a surprise to Rangers fans and board members alike, with Flavio Briatore disappointed about De Canio`s need to return to Italy and resolve personal issues.
