A Plymouth Argyle supporter tells Vital QPR that despite being written off by the media, the Pilgrims are ready to prove their critics wrong.
Paul, the editor of Vital Plymouth divulges his views about the campaign, indicating that Argyle are set to prove their critics wrong once again.
What do you make of some of the newspapers pre-season predictions that you will be in big trouble this season?
Well, we are used to it by now. The experts tip us for relegation every season and we always defy the odds and stay up, although last season it was close!
New owners bring new ambition as we know at QPR – How excited are you by this latest takeover and what does it mean for the club?
The take over was just what the club and the fans needed, it gave everyone fresh optimism. It appears the budget for the players wage bill has been increased which means Argyle can attract better players, the new board of directors have also come up with some excellent off-the-pitch ideas and incentives to get more fans into Home Park .
There have been mutterings of discontent against Paul Sturrock in recent times, what do you make of the job he`s done second time around?
Last season Sturrock struggled and appeared to be out of his depth in the Championship, the fans didn`t like the hoofball style of football, with many fans wanting him replaced. However, he wasn`t allowed to bring in the players he wanted and had to make do, he kept Argyle up and so for him it was job done.
Will he get the time to work with the new owners or do you sense that they want to bring their own man in?
The new owners have backed Sturrock by allowing him to bring in several new players, it`s a fresh start for him but he needs a good start to the season. If the team is struggling at the wrong end of the Championship by October, coupled with no improvement in the style of football then Sturrock could well be replaced.
A solid point at Palace and a defeat at Gillingham – What do you make of your beginning to the campaign?
We never get past the First Round of the Carling Cup so that defeat should be ignored, so in affect it was a steady start with a point at Palace. We now have two home games where four points should be won.
Do you feel you`ve bought adequately this summer – are there any areas that still need strengthening?
Sturrock has made some very good signings, he`s strengthened areas of the team that were weak last season, however the proof is in the results, so we shall see if his new signings are any good on the pitch.
QPR and Plymouth have a lot of connections in recent times – What is your impression from the outside of what is happening at Loftus Road ?
You seem to have wealthy owners and yet they haven`t really splashed the cash. From the outside QPR should be the Man City of the Championship but it doesn`t seem to be happening.
What Plymouth player should QPR fans look out for this weekend?
No player has really stood out for Argyle in the first two games but we should have Alan Gow from Rangers on-board by Saturday, so look out for him.
Conversely are there any QPR players that you feel could do Plymouth some damage?
We still love Buzsaky and he should do well against us.
What is your prediction for the fixture?
A: A 2-1 win for Argyle
