Rob Green joined Queens Park Rangers on a free transfer in the summer of 2012, turning down a new deal from West Ham United to become the replacement for outgoing Paddy Kenny. His debut against Swansea City was a worrying prospect for the outcome of the season.

Green made several mistakes as Rangers went on to lose heavily, and indeed those mistakes carried over into several subsequent performances. Whether it prompted the signing of Julio Cesar is open to debate as the ‘keeper was soon cast off for the incoming Brazilian.

He has revealed that Mark Hughes said he could look for another club just a couple of months into his deal as he cast a scorn face on the bench, even when QPR managed to find the back of the net, it was clear that Green had little interest in remaining.

When Harry Redknapp took over, he gave Green a little more game time – owing predominantly to Cesar injuries – but even he had to drop the ‘keeper he pursued while at Tottenham Hotspur when his poor error allowed West Bromwich Albion to take vital points at Loftus Road.

He did put in some sparkling efforts late on in the season, notably denying Southampton in stunning fashion to secure what could have been a priceless win, and he will now surely remain to be number one for Rangers next season in the Championship.
