Opinion: Mark Warburton makes the game sound so simple, now is the time for him to prove it

|

It’s nice to see the game broken down as simply as this.

It just goes to show that it can be the simple things that are holding the team back rather than anything complicated. Now the question is, what are we going to do to fix the problem? Over to you Mark Warburton.

Speaking after the defeat to Blackburn, Warburton looked ahead to this weekend’s clash with Bristol City and pointed out that he expects a tough game against the Robins, but said that there was one area of the pitch that his side needed to take advantage of:

“They are a very good team and we have to go into it and from the first whistle impose ourselves. You have seen the chances we can create and the areas we get in to – teams know we are good on the ball but we have to get our rewards. If you don’t get your rewards you start to lose belief. We have to put the ball in the back of the net – that’s the game.”

So if my understanding is right, we need to work on the defensive side of our game, and we need to work on the attacking side of it as well now. And I always thought being a football manager was difficult.

Well, it certainly will be interesting to see if he can actually get his side to finish the chances that they create, that way he might actually get some credit for his coaching. And with the departure of top scorer Nahki Wells, that pressure to succeed is only going to get higher and higher.

I’ve spoken before about how the players need to step up in case of Wells’ departure, and now that it’s happened, Warburton needs to make sure that the players are in the best position to finish those chances and make up for the absence of Wells.

Will BOS be able to fill some of the void left by Wells?

Yes

No

Otherwise it’ll become all the more obvious that Wells was dragging the team through this season, rather than anything Warburton brought to the table.
