Opinion: If club need assurances over potential deal, then QPR may be better off without

|

QPR are allegedly closing in on the loan signing of Jack Clarke from Tottenham Hotspur, according to reports.

Reports in Football Insider claim that Rangers are ‘increasingly confident’ that they can use Mark Warburton’s healthy relationship with Spurs to get Jack Clarke to the club.

Sky Sports have also run a story which suggests that a string of Championship clubs are all chasing his signature – including Millwall, Stoke and Middlesbrough – but they want assurances that he will be getting regular first-team games.

While there’s no doubt that Jack Clarke might be a good addition and add more depth to the club, there’s nothing to say that he would definitely be starting, especially with the form of the two current wingers at the moment.

Furthermore, expanding on Football Insider’s piece on how great Spurs’ and Warburton’s relationship is, the club could end up tarnishing that relationship by Rangers not being able to fulfil the terms of the loan deal.

Would Jack Clarke be a good signing for us?

Yes

No

Much of this deal could depend on the future of Eberechi Eze, as if he departs, then there would definitely be a higher chance of Jack Clarke getting regular football.

The Rs’ wingers have been causing some real problems in the last couple of games with 11 goals in just two matches in January. Eze has been playing on the left, while Bright Osayi-Samuel has been on the right, and quite frankly, teams haven’t been able to handle them.

If Eze does stay, then there still could be potential to work him into the team. Eze could play more centrally, leaving a position available on the left-wing, though that could subsequently stifle the progress of Ilias Chair who prefers to play in attacking midfield.

Ultimately, Clarke’s pace and trickery is enough to cause any teams problems and he could be frightening with Eze and Osayi-Samuel in the same squad, however, QPR need to be sure to manage the expectations of Spurs carefully, as upsetting them over this deal wouldn’t be worth it in the long run when they could want players in the future.
