McClaren Gets A Boost Ahead Of Wigan As Key Man Declares His Fitness

|

Australian international midfielder Mass Luongo is now back with Queens Park Rangers following the Aussie’s Asian Cup commitments, and he’s already declared that he’s fit and ready to go for this weekend’s clash against Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium.

The 26-year-old has been missing from contention going back to the Boxing Day clash with Ipswich Town and the last six games have seen manager Steve McClaren’s side go winless in the second tier table, so having him back to bolster midfield should give us a significant boost.

Speaking to the Official Site Luongo admitted the tournament had been a ‘disappointment’ as they dropped out at the quarter-final stages despite being the Cup holders and for his part, our midfielder only featured twice.

The flip side of that is of course that he returns pretty fit and with basically a full week to prepare ahead of the tie, any fatigue or tiredness issues shouldn’t be a problem, and he’s certainly not expecting them to be.

“The competition was a disappointment. That’s tournament football. You have these plans and the next minute you are on the flight home. You can’t predict those things but the good news is I’ve got a full week until we play Wigan on Saturday and I can prepare well for QPR. From a fatigue perspective, I’m all good. I’m raring to go and can’t wait to get firing again.”

Luongo spoke about following results whilst he was away and he felt the Preston North End performance was a blip and overshadowed how well we had done in prior matches, without getting the results we’d have wanted.

“The Preston result is not a massive dip – it’s more a knock-on-the-door to say, ‘Wake up, let’s get back to the way we were before New Year.’”
