QUEENS Park Rangers succumbed to a late goal as Tom since fired Derby County into a playoff place.
Following successive defeats against Ipswich Town, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Rotherham United respectively, Rangers performed better but were left bemoaning a second half sucker-punch to see them edged out on this occasion.
The Rs appeared attack-minded but fragile throughout with Grant Hall playing at the heart of midfield. Hall to his credit made the best of a difficult job, but it was clear his natural talents lie in a deeper role.
The second half saw Rangers crank up the pressure and force a number of corners but then eventually fell victim to Rams talisman Tom Ince, who slotted a neatly taken effort beyond the despairing dive of Alex Smithies.
Another defeat for Ian Holloway, who will undoubtedly need time to stamp his mark on the side – but altogether still troubling for Rangers who slip ever closer to the Championship trap door.
